WHY DO I HAVE SHOE ODOR?
Our feet have over 250,000 sweat glands which produce about one cup of perspiration per day – and this is without exertion! The perspiration, combined with the fact that our shoes and socks typically have very little ventilation, creates the perfect breeding ground for bacteria and fungus to develop. It is bacteria that are the most prevalent cause of shoe odor. As our physical activity increases, bacterial growth, waste and odor intensity. Bacteria double in number every 20 minutes!
At any given time, millions of bacteria live in our shoes, along with fungi and molds. Like all living things, these organisms have survival activities which consist of food intake and the production of waste. Bacteria will consume dead skin cells and naturally, produce waste. It is the waste material that is often the cause of shoe odor.
While most of our shoe odor is caused by bacteria delivered by our perspiration, some of the odor is caused by smelly fatty acids, urea, ammonia, and steroids. Clean Sweep® is formulated to attach to the volatile molecules of these substances making them heavy and permanently non-detectable! Clean Sweep® will also capture odor from cigarette smoke, urine, cooking odors, and most other residual odors!
WHAT CAN YOU DO TO PREVENT SHOE ODOR?
- • Wash smelly feet thoroughly and dry completely after washing.
- Apply antiperspirant or foot powder to reduce sweat.
- Choose shoe materials that breathe and socks that wick moisture away from your feet.
- Avoid wearing rubber or plastic shoes and nylon socks which can cause perspiration and bacterial activity.
- Avoid wearing the same pair of shoes two days in a row.
- Change socks daily.
HOW CAN I GET RID OF SHOE ODOR?
Spray Clean Sweep® directly into shoes until there is no odor. Just like wet paint – allow it to dry overnight before wearing. For example, if you wear shoes before they are dry, the socks will wick the treatment off the shoes. You can treat the shoes when they are wet or dry. If the insole is removable, remove the insole and spray the entire floor of the footwear. Then, with the shoe inverted, spray down into the toe box. It is important that the item is sprayed until no odor is detected. Be sure to coat the heel area, tongue, and sides until damp. Then spray both sides of the insole and let both separated items dry overnight. In the morning, simply put the insole back in the shoe and they are ready to wear. There is no need to treat the item again until the odor returns. In most cases, Clean Sweep® will protect the footwear for 4-6
